What are the needs of Matas?

Matas is the largest beauty, personal care and health products retailer in Denmark with a business history of nearly 75 years. With 263 physical stores and several webshops, over 2500 employees and an annual revenue of around DKK 3.6 billion, the need of a secure and highly functioning payment gateway and subscription service is evident.

Billwerk+ Danish office, formerly known as Reepay, has handled all online payments for Matas since 2019. Besides handling online payments with payment cards and MobilePay, Matas is also using a Billwerk+ subscription service, which gives the consumer 20% off, free delivery and the possibility to customize the range of products delivered and refilled after a certain period. The flexible subscription service also allows customers to start a subscription in a physical store, adding it to their purchases in the checkout.

Subscription models – more than a trend

In Denmark the interest of a business model about subscribing to a physical product began several years ago, with companies like Barbérklingen and Goodiebox offering subscriptions on their products. This idea was adopted by Matas, who saw the need of the customer and the opportunity for consumers to subscribe to the very same products that you can buy in a Matas store. 4 out 5 Danish women are members of Club Matas, making it one of the largest loyalty clubs in Denmark.

The interest of subscription models in e-commerce and the increasing demand of the customers clearly states that subscription services have outgrown the trend phase, and is now here to stay.
